Prairie Pothole Region Finally Getting Moisture
December 30, 2008 by Chris Hustad
As I write this out of my Bismarck, ND office, it’s still snowing. When I woke up and turned on the television, they announced that we had broken the single month record of snow ever in a month timespan since it’s been recorded (around a century). The first thing came to my mind – the [...]

Sometimes change is good, I’m hoping this to be the case of the new DuckHuntingChat.com site.
This site has come a long ways the past 5 1/2 years, and it has grown due to the great community. I’d like to give back with more features and more information that has been graciously provided by your [...]

December 23, 2008 by Chris Hustad
By John Potts
In this article, I wrote it to be a very simple gunner paint job. But at the end, I put a few techniques to fancy it up a bit. If you’re planning on trying that, read the entire article before you start to paint the decoy.
COLOR LIST=Gesso ( white ), Titanium [...]
Calculated Shotgun Shell Pellet Count
December 23, 2008 by Chris Hustad
The pellet count in shotgun shells is useful information for hunters and reloaders. Sometimes manufacturers’ shot counts are hard to find. People commonly post on the DHC Shotshell, Reloading, Ballistics, and Choke Forum
requesting pellet counts for various loadings.
For my own use, I assembled the following tables which give the calculated pellet counts [...]
15 Below Goose Hunt
December 23, 2008 by Chris Hustad
If you’re an extreme waterfowler, you have to be a little nuts. I’ve experienced and read about more stories of guys doing crazy things, all in the pursuit of some birds. I’ve heard of guys braving high waves and nasty tides in the Pacific Northwest in layout boats with many “close calls”. [...]

What Snow Goose Decoys Should I Buy?
December 17, 2008 by Chris Hustad
By Chris Hustad
Getting snow geese feet down into your decoy spread is easier said then done
I think snow goose hunters spend the most money out of all species of waterfowl hunters (excluding what some duck hunters pay for their boat/accessories). It seems that no matter how many decoys one owns, it’s never enough. Ask anyone [...]

Lanyard Instructions
December 17, 2008 by Chris Hustad
By Erik Laing
As waterfowlers, we are often the do-it-yourself types. After all, when it really counts our equipment needs to simply enough, work. It’s important when you’re trying to trick the wariest of opponents, protect us from Mother Nature, and keep us comfortable. It’s no wonder why most people don’t make or maintain a lot [...]
