DuckHuntingChat.com Got a Facelift

Sometimes change is good, I’m hoping this to be the case of the new DuckHuntingChat.com site.
This site has come a long ways the past 5 1/2 years, and it has grown due to the great community. I’d like to give back with more features and more information that has been graciously provided by your [...]

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today approved the establishment of Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge in eastern Pennsylvania.
The Service has established a boundary for the refuge, encompassing 20,466 acres in Monroe and Northampton counties, within which it may begin acquiring nationally significant habitat for wildlife as part of the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Painting a Drake Mallard Decoy

By John Potts
In this article, I wrote it to be a very simple gunner paint job. But at the end, I put a few techniques to fancy it up a bit. If you’re planning on trying that, read the entire article before you start to paint the decoy.
COLOR LIST=Gesso ( white ), Titanium [...]

Calculated Shotgun Shell Pellet Count

Calculated Shotgun Shell Pellet Count

The pellet count in shotgun shells is useful information for hunters and reloaders. Sometimes manufacturers’ shot counts are hard to find. People commonly post on the DHC Shotshell, Reloading, Ballistics, and Choke Forum
requesting pellet counts for various loadings.
For my own use, I assembled the following tables which give the calculated pellet counts [...]

15 Below Goose Hunt

If you’re an extreme waterfowler, you have to be a little nuts. I’ve experienced and read about more stories of guys doing crazy things, all in the pursuit of some birds. I’ve heard of guys braving high waves and nasty tides in the Pacific Northwest in layout boats with many “close calls”. [...]

New Army Corps/EPA Wetlands Guidance Highlights Need for Congressional Action

The guidance released yesterday from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers on wetlands jurisdiction does not address a delayed permitting process, and highlights the need for a legislative solution to the regulatory quagmire that has followed in the wake of the Rapanos v. What Snow Goose Decoys Should I Buy?

By Chris Hustad

Getting snow geese feet down into your decoy spread is easier said then done

I think snow goose hunters spend the most money out of all species of waterfowl hunters (excluding what some duck hunters pay for their boat/accessories). It seems that no matter how many decoys one owns, it’s never enough. Ask anyone [...]

With some patience and know-how, you can learn to tune a goose call the way you prefer

Ahhh Spring time. It’s wonderful isn’t it? The birds are coming back, the kids are able to play in the yard again without getting frostbitten, Gramps can finally get back on that lawn mower that’s been teasing [...]

Lanyard Instructions

By Erik Laing
As waterfowlers, we are often the do-it-yourself types. After all, when it really counts our equipment needs to simply enough, work. It’s important when you’re trying to trick the wariest of opponents, protect us from Mother Nature, and keep us comfortable. It’s no wonder why most people don’t make or maintain a lot [...]

The Four Subspecies of the Common Eider in North America

By The Downeast Duck Hunter

The Hudson Bay Eider, note the band on it’s leg…

Due to my proximity in Downeast Maine, I figure that almost 100% of my duck hunting takes place on the Atlantic Ocean. Within my bag exists the likes of the bufflehead, common goldeneye, old squaw, lesser scaup, merganser, butter bill scoter, surf [...]
