I just got a double reed call today in the mail. It's the first double I've owned in many years and it seems I'm a little out of practice.....OK, ALOT out of practice with the doubles. How about some quick tips on calling and tuning them from you experts. Please don't suggest buying cd's and tapes as I just want a couple of quick tips and hints to help refresh my memory. Thanks.

Generally as I recall, dbl reeds are easier to blow because it takes less air to make it work. Singles take more air and use more hand/finger control too. And being single take more air, they are generally louder. I'm no expert, but I'm a gooid meat caller when it comes to ducks.

Actually there is not a big difference between the 2, if you can do the basic calls on one, you should be able to do it also with the other. Maybe you need to change the volume of air you are using. Experiment a bit. Otherwise you could have bought a call that is not tuned right.

the biggest difference i notice between my singles and doubles is air pressure and volume. if i've been blowing a single for a bit and grab a double my first tendency is to "over blow" it and squall the call quite a bit.

same goes for the reverse..if i pick up a single after using a double i tend to start out flat for lack of enough air getting into the call.

for your double, try backing off on the amount of air you are blowing into the call and introduce a little more grunt. (not sure how much you grunt into your call now, but i tend to use less on a single and more with a double for some reason.)
