The African Blackwood is a very dense wood and will give a sound that resembles acrylic. If you are hunting seriously big water, or are fond of the look of that bright colorful call, go with the acrylic. In the field, wood does produce a mellower sound not immediately apparent inside a store, but again, the more rare hard woods are REALLY hard and can produce a wonderful ringing sound like acrylic does. If you like the unique look of the wood call, grab it and you will be satisfied. Until you get to very big water I don't think you will be wanting of volume with African Blackwood.
