brand new mossberg 835 with problems

I was wandering if anyone could give me some advice on what to do. I have a brand new mossberg 835. Whenever i load shells into the magazine i have to force them in very hard. It will push the shell in about half way and then i have to push harder. Also the gun will then jam on either the second or third shot when a lot of shots are being made. I am using 3 in. winchester expert steel. I have tried some 3 1/2's but they are a nightmare to get in the magazine. What should I do?

Sell it and get a different pump :toofunny: Anyway, did you clean it up really nice when you took it out of the box. Pop the end cap off and take out the spring. I don't know what the problem would be exactly. Maybe one of these other guys will jump in.

Jagerduck,
I will have to disagree with the other couple of people who said to get rid of it. No offense to anyone. I have had an 835 for going on 10 years now. And this gun has seen it all. Bottom of duck boats, FRIGID cold goose hunts laying in the snow, tripping and falling on it chasing turkeys thru the hills and all else. This sucker will take it. SOunds like you got a bad gun that needs a little fine tuning. Get ahold of Mossberg and see what they suggest on how to get it back to them for a replacement or fixing. Or better yet, if you bought it new, take it back where you bought it and ask them. Don't let this put a bad taste in your mouth about Mossberg, they are great guns.

Dont listen to them Take apart the magazine and make sure its put together right then call mossgerg Ive owned a winchester 1300 REM 11-87 and 870 a benellie nova and the mossberg was betterthan all of them cheaper too no reason to pay more money its not a fashion show your mossberg will kill just as many birds as any of the others and will leave you with some money to but the wife a nice gift so you dont have to listen to her complain about you hunting everyday

I dont have an 835, but I have a Rem. 870 3 1/2, and when I first got it, it too did the same thing. I had to completely take out the magazine (spring and plug) and put it back together again. If it isnt put together just right those darn tube magazines just wont work. Oh by the way, dont get rid of yer gun, I'm thinking of trading in my Rem. to get an 835. But if you do get rid of it, I want first dibs!

my friend has an 835 and the thing is a cannon...if you know what i mean...The gun parts are kinda sloppy and if I was gonna get a mossberg it would be the 935 but I think I will stick with the Winchesters

bah..soo many people getting down on mossbergs. there are plenty of uses for them. i had an 835 for the last two seasons. they make good jack handles, fence posts, paddles, crutches, and occasionally they are good for shooting birds. :toofunny:

j/k - i had an 835 that i loved. granted, i did have a re-occuring problem with the ejector screw falling out, but Mossy volunteered to fix or replace the gun. no hassles. instead, i sold it and bought a benelli nova.

i think i had a point i was going to make.....ummmmm....

oh yeah. don't get down on the gun. get it fixed and it should give you years of good hunting. yeah, it may be a little sloppy and rattle around a bit....and it might feel like you're sholdering a 4 foot section of 2x6 instead of a gun, but man o man can they kill birds.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I completely broke the gun down and cleaned every single part, wall, chamber, magazine, everything! I oiled it down good and it has been knockin birds down like no other. The guys i hunt with have benneli nova's and they can't keep up with the 835. The ducks have been flying all over here in Oklahoma! Thanks for all the advice
