1187 shell stop what gives?

I went shooting the other day with my father in laws 1187 and once I shot it, it rejecked the spent sell, but all the shells up in the mag started to come down jamming the action. I thought maybe it's dirty. I go to clean it and the shell stop came out once the pin was removed. Are they to come out or is that my problem with my shells all feeding down all at once, instead of just one at a time?

The shell latch is only staked into te side of the receiver. You can purchase a restaking tool when you purchase a new shell latch.

That shell latch is most likely broken. It happens. When cleaning, be sure not to allow the action to slam closed. It is best to keep a pin through that side of the receiver to ensure the shell latch doesn't come undone.

The shell latch does not have to be staked in to work properly IF it is not bent or broken. The trigger assembly pins hold it in the proper position. It sounds like yours may be bent. I haven't had much luck fixing a bent one. I would order a new one. You can install it yourself using 2 small spots of epoxy or even super glue where the old staking marks are. Don't go overboard with the glue. Then put in the trigger assembly and replace the pins and let it dry.

I've had to assemble one with an unstaked shell latch twice. It was quite interesting/frustrating.

I would rather strip my A5 to it's component parts and reassemble it than reassemble an 11-87 with a loose shell latch.
:mad:
I was hoping because it was loose that it was giving me fits, so their a pain, great. :rolleyes:

The above poster knows his 1187's perfectly. He is right you do not have to have staked for it to function properly.
That is the best advice you will ever get on the Remington 1187. I didn't use glue on mine but put it back and
let the trigger hold it.......

It's not that bad, I had mine loose for a few years until I heard about the glue trick. Just takes a little patience and coordination.
