Question for you dead coyote load users?

I bought a box of 3 1/2 inch 12 gauge 1 5/8 oz T shot the box says 1350 FPS. What choke tube do you recommend? What is the maximum distance I might expect this load to work on foxes and coyotes? At the cost and recoil of this stuff I want to keep patterning to a minimum so I would like to start out with what you gentlemen have had the best results with. Thank you in advance

I use a IMP/Mod choke with Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote T shot loads, Rem HD Predator T shot loads, Rem HD BB loads and the Federal Heavyweight #2 shot and BB loads for coyotes.

The Carlson's Dead Coyote choke and Full chokes that I have patterned tighter than I want with all of the above Tungsten alloy loads.

I prefer the Federal Heavyweight #2 shot and the Remington HD BB shot over the Hevi-Shot T shot loads and the Rem HD Predator T shot loads because of the much higher pellet count in the Federal Heavyweight #2 and the Rem HD BB shot loads.

The Dead Coyote T shot loads are just like most of the waterfowl loads with big pellets. The pattern falls apart way before the pellets have lost the energy to kill. The Hevi-Shot Dead Coyote T shot loads will kill coyotes up to 50 to 55 yards pretty good but you better be ready to shoot the coyote 2 or 3 times if the coyote is moving after the first shot.

No matter what shotgun load you use and no matter what distance you are shooting at a coyote be ready to shoot them multiple times. Coyotes are 5 to 10 times tougher than a goose.

Thanks for the reply derby were you concerned about pelt damage? Is that why you didn't like the tight pattern.? While I am limited to a shotgun I do have another gun that I could use that might solve the problem. I have a camo Browning 3 1/2 inch synergy over and under maybe I could use a dead coyote load choke in one barrel and a more open choke and smaller shot in the other depending on the range the coyote comes in. The place I'm hunting is in the suburbs and the landowner prefers I only use a shotgun. But if I used the longest range choke I could that would be nice and the second barrel is a good option I think.

At least half of the coyores I shoot at with a shotgun are running. It is much easier to hit a running coyote with a 24" wide pattern than it is to hit them with a 12" wide pattern.

The more you try to make shotguns shoot great patterns up to 70 yards, you make it much harder to hit a coyote solid at under 40 yards.

I shoot a O/U shotgun at Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays but I don't hunt with one. I want at least 3 shots for hunting coyotes.

First off I am by no means a predator hunter, so I only have second hand info for you. As far as chokes go, Hevi shot makes a dead coyote choke that is supposed to be phenomenal I will have to look up the constrictions because I'm not 100% sure what it's between. I have had numerous customers tell me at a show that they have smoked yotes at the 60 - 70 yard range.

I have used them with good success using IM Choke from Briley. As one mentioned the Dead Coyote choke, albeit is a great choke is super tight. When using the scatterguns on coyotes i've always liked to shoot them under 40 yards, IM has worked GREAT for me. Albeit, I don't hunt predators hard core, usually around 5-7 times a year.
