I will have this report posted to our web site(http://www.msdeltaducks.com) also but here is the first report for this season. Thanks - William Wixon

With the opening of duck season only a few weeks away, we wanted to get the 2012 - 2013 Edition of the MS Delta Ducks Migration and Harvest Report up and running. In this fourth season of the affordable season hunt program, the blinds are the best built by the staff to date. Each season, we have added infrastructure to the blinds and sought input from our hunters on items that they would like to see improved on the prototype. We are quite proud of the 2012 - 2013 version and feel that the hunters will be equally pleased. The millet program remained in place this summer and should reap even greater dividends as the cumulative effect is to bring ducks back to food-rich, managed holes in subsequent seasons. The brakes and wetland areas have very good water levels with the exception of a few holes in the Bayou Basin. Our staff has seen more big ducks (mallards and gadwall) in the Mississippi Delta at this point of November than in the prior three years. They are joined by a number of northern shovelers, teal and blue bills. The wintering goose population is also larger at this stage than in the preceding years. As is traditional in the early season, the waterfowl present are concentrated in the habitat complex areas where the largest sheets of water can be found. The outlying brakes and flooded grain fields will begin holding ducks as the winter sets in. At this point, there should still be some good hunts in the outer areas as groups of gadwall suddenly descend on the brakes after sunrise. In those cases the shooting will be fast and furious. To sum up the current duck presence, the early or local ducks are more significant than in the last three seasons, and we anticipate a solid opening weekend with more mallards in the mix than in recent history. There are still a limited number of slots available in the season hunt program. We invite you to come hunt with us.
