Mobile Delta blinds

Does anyone know the rules for hunting from blinds in the Mobile Delta? I was in there for the first time this weekend doing some scouting and noticed several boat blinds built with a sign in them. The sign usually had a name and 06-07. My buddy and I didn't know if this meant the spot was "reserved" or just showed who built the blind and when.

There is no law that reserves a blind on public land. However, it has been an ongoing gentlemen's agreement not to hunt from a blind that you did not build on opening weekend for decades. Taking someone's blind on opening weekend would probably cause an altercation. The sign is telling you who built it and for what duck season. I would suggest building a blind out of reeds cut from the side of the bays or causeway, if you want a blind to hunt out of on opening weekend in the Delta. Good luck this season.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense, but I wanted to hear it from someone who knows beforehand instead of finding out when we were out there.

How crowded does it get?

Do you know anyone that hunts from land, or does most everyone stay in a boat.

Thanks and good luck.

Some areas get very crowded, others aren't so bad. This will let up after the second weekend usually. By then most birds tend to start avoiding blinds and hang out in the center of the bigger bays. Most everyone hunts from a boat in the lower delta, the mud is too soft to walk in, so you would have to use a boat to retreive your birds unless you have a dog. If you do have a dog be careful for gators. I saw one last weekend that was 13-14 feet long.

Also, if you hunt from land in the delta, I believe you would need a WMA permit to hunt from wildlife management area land. You might want to check with a Game Warden on that.

it gets as crowded as you want it to be. make sure you dont build your blind close (<300yds) from somebody else or you probally wont have one opening mornning.also not knowing the area i would suggest building one on low tide.it can be a circus in the delta,i usually only hunt there during the week after opening weekend and only hunt potholes.
