I know it depends on the water your hunting as to depth, but how much cord do you guys put on your deckoys? Last year I over did it and had about 10' on each. Im thinking 5' would be good. Their was to much screwing around with depth last year in the early mornings. Im wanting to simplify things this year.

Im thinking about putting more coots than ringers this year.
 now your on the right track!
If I could I would put thenm out 4:1 or better in favor of coots. Unfortunately I just dont have that many coot dekes. So I'm forced about 50/50

When the ringers get shy I go nearly nothing but coots and a couple ringer hens.

I have those ace weights. Not sure if its because they were stored in the cold or what, but they lose their elasticity after a year or two. I really liked them too, but they don't really hold up. I switched them all out last year to really small bungee cords (like 8") that I found at the local hardware store.

Yes I know him. I started him duck hunting a couple of years a go. He got a new girl friend last year and only went one time. He is kind a whipped if you know what I mean

He does not have much expereince with ducks and peppered the heck out of me one morning. Actually drew blood. Now I keep him real close or very far away no in between.

seems like the kind of guy who SERIOUSLY needs to take a hunter safety course...

Jim I remember you telling me that story, I would have beat the sheet out of him with the butt end of my shotgun then left his ass in the marsh.

Winston he was a range safety officer at the time. It was his first year duck hunting and we had 50 or 60 greenwings sitting in the decoys just before legal shooting time when it happend. After that I made him sit in a blind with me for awhile so he could learn when to shoot and when not to shoot.

Ok...
Most private and club ranges have no training or background requirements to be an RSO. Just do me a favor make sure he doesnt hunt when I'm along. He'd get an earfull from me even as a third party to the incident.

I have found the "L" shaped weights to be a pain in the arse cause they pull up a ton of weeds when you pick up your dekes. Been usin' ones poured from muffin pans and the rounded edges shed the salad fairly well.

I use 7 ft of cord for puddlers and tangle free leads. 11 ft of cord for divers with the long stick mushroom weights for the fill in deeks (have some gang rigs and fill in the area around with singles).

Don't like the L weights for the hydrilla and stuff we have around here.
