Well Saturday was the hunt of a lifetime. I got the opportunity to hunt a private 700 Acre ranch in Hagerman (not one of the clubs) that has a spring fed source that stays 55 degrees year around. We ended up getting our limit in 35 minutes shooting only one at a time out of each group that came in. One hen got taken, and I owed beer because of it, but in my defense I shot the Drake and she was just a secondary by standard. I will post the pictures later after I resize them to fit. Hope everone finished the season strong and if your in the Gooding area or plan to make a trip the fields are full of Mallards right now, and I mean full every where you look you see ducks in the sky, Happy Hunting!

I had my last hunt yesterday (Monday) as I will be out of town for the last few days of this season. Hunted the Snake south of Nampa and limited out with 7 mallards but it took a lot longer than 35 minutes. I could have limited much earlier with small ducks (wood, gray, and widgeon) but I wanted to finish up only with large ducks for the freezer. It was a good finish to my first season of duck hunting in like 33 years (my last was in 1979 season in Louisiana). Since then I have only a had a couple of single hunts in visits back to the home state.

I think everybody had a super hunt in the Hagerman area both Friday and Saturday that weekend.
Hunt of a lifetime for some.
Friday, we hunted a 20 minute drive away from Hagerman, and had absolute swarms of birds on us.
Saturday we were a little worried about hunting a different field five minutes out of Hagerman, but our local teenage guild took us to his family field, and the hunting was several times better than it had been the day before.
We had large swarms of birds in the 300-500 count, and sometimes there were so many more than that, it was hard to even guess.
As these swarms passed over the field, the guys in my group would start calling to them, and maybe they'd pull in one out of three or four of the large groups. Seemed as if they could get three to five birds to set and drop in, the whole swarm would instantly lock up and come down on us like dumping out a barrel full of leaves. I don't think we had to wait more than 10 minutes for such groups while we were there.
One of the all-time great bird hunting spectacles I've ever seen in 53 years of duck hunting, and I've seen a few!
