Hi, I live in Oregon right now but next year i am going to college in Nampa, Idaho. My uncle always tells me about how the duck and goose hunting was awesome on the snake river. i think this was about 23 years ago. he said that he would go duck hunting every morning and get a limit almost every morning. WOW! i was just wandering if there is anyone out there that could let me know how the hunting is on the snake these days or on lake lowell. any info would be greatly appreciated. i pretty much cant wait to go to college just so i can hunt.

the duck hunting isnt near that good now, but we always get a few birds. sometimes limits. we only got skunked twice last year. keep in mind we shoot quite a few divers. i know alot of guys only want the puddlers. i plan on trying lake lowell this year. dont know how good it is but i am gonna give it a try. people say if you have alot of time and money to scout. you can do real good. some guys claim to shoot 150 to 200 birds a year.

thanx for the info donell67 so do you hunt on the snake river by nampa? i have heard that it is really crowded on the weekends, but not so crowded on the weekdays. since i will be in college i hope to be able to go on the weekdays before class and on weekends. is it fairly easy to find a spot to hunt on the river without being crowded? do you get ducks and geese on the river? any info would be greatly appreciated.

i hunt all up and down the snake. yeah most places get pretty crowded on the weekends. some spots are pretty vacant on the weekdays.i dont get alot of geese on the snake.mostly divers and a few puddlers. i have about 5 dozen goose floaters too.the geese dont work the water like they use too. they usually just come in to roost after hours. weve hunted tell closing hours before and come to the same spot the next morning. theres alot of geese then but they get up and leave before hours. granted some work the river during the morning hunt, not many though. they are mostly looking for fields to eat during that time. good luck hunting, duck hunting is awesome sport. i am addicted to say the least.

DK17,

the lake is okay place if you know what you are doing... it is olny ducks no shooting geese and you can not run a boat motor... the snake river is great shooting if you put some time in and scout... some hot spots to stay away from on the weekends are Homedale and Marsing... but being from OR you could hunt Nyssa area of the river from both sides... good luck...

Jake

also you picked a good school..

I would agree with most of what has been said. I started "hunting" the area in the late 70's. The puddle duck hunting has declined quite a bit since then. I attribute the decline to loss of corn, new home developements, and nearly impossible private ground access. We hunt 60+/- days per year and kill "enough" birds. Every year is different. Wej like to shoot divers but we shoot alot of puddlers also. In recent years......our "worst" ratio was 70% puddlers and 30% divers. There are a couple keys to success to being consistent in our area. The most important........by far........is have the time and money to scout more than you hunt.... and be able to buy the gear to hunt specific situations.
