So my boy, Jr #2 has developed an addiction to deer hunting thanks to his Papaw over the past to seasons. He has passed on several nice smaller bucks and more doe's than one can count. I am proud of this fact and comend him all the time for it. Most 10 year old boys would drop the hammer on the first spike they crossed paths with. I myself haven't been in several years 10+ because I don't recall enjoing it all that much. Anyways #2's enthusisam ( the trail cam pics of a BIG 12 and a real nasty non typical didn't help) got the best of me and I went Deer hunting yesterday. It didn't take long for me to remember why I hadn't been in 10+ years, DEER HUNTNG SUCKS! You can't pee, can't talk, can't cook up bacon and eggs, can't move, CAN'T CAN'T CAN'T. Way to many can'ts for me. I seen everything but a deer, ducks, geese, hawks, crows, tree rats, beavers, and a bluejay.

Come on Duck season.

I have been burnt out on deer myself for a few yrs, but yesterday evening i found myself sitting in a popup blind behind the house with my 11 yr old son waiting and waiting and...... waiting. And i realized, if he gets into this i will have to do it for another 20 yrs. But i would gladly, to know that he would rather be in the Woods than somewhere doing whatever young people do these days.

I enjoy it, if I'm in an area where deer population is good and I see several deer. Boring to me, to hunt a field or gun hunt. But, i picked up bow hunting and its more of a thrill. Had deer 9 out of 10 hunts in range but never released a shot yet. Couple times I thought the big 10 was trailing. Once I jumped em drawing. Still learning the bow strategies. With that said it doesn't compare at all to me with waterfowl hunting. Been hunting a big 10 but next few hunts first sight of brown in range is going down. Need some sausage for opening day!

Deer....

I just moved up to KY around Ft Campbell this year and don't really know any places to go. I have a bow and I went on post a few times but I can't throw a rock without hitting someone here on the base so I started going to Pennyrile WMA, and I haven't even seen anything yet.

I've found rub lines all over the place, tracks, deer trails etc. and I'm deep down in the woods where most of the people wouldn't go cause there's no sign of persons anywhere. But I can't get a deer to save my life.

Oh well, sounds like your boy has a good head on his shoulders.

now that I moved to WI i dont even think of deer hunting.

goose starts sept 1- till dec 22. throw in duck season for 60 of those days.

then the plant i work at shuts down xmas/new years week so I hunt those 2 weeks in KY/IL

use 14days of vacation in January for KY hunting.

February and March it's back to every weekend chasing snows in MO/IL/KY (just depends where they are)

Sounds like a perfect schedule too me. I can hunt most anyday of the season, I'm self employed. But long trips are very limited having 2 kids and my wife working.
