Catahoula Lake ducks?

I haven't been hunting since before Christmas because of various reasons. Is anyone still killing ducks? I seldom hear any shooting on the lake from my house. My buddy and his friend killed 2 mallards and a pintail one evening about a week ago. He said they saw very few ducks. I don't see any flying around in the morning or late in the evening at my house either.

I drove around the duck pond refuge yesterday morning and there were some birds but it was far from full. Mallards, cans, greenwings. Didn't mess with going out on the lake.

Most popular public places are usually suffering from being over pressured by the end of the holidays with everyone being off work and school.

Good weather moving so it might be worth taking a look see though. Buddies that hunted east of the lake this morning had lots of new birds around and were done in short time.

I went to the DU Migration Map and looked at a report for Catahoula Lake. A hunter said the lake was frozen over. He also said people were whacking the ducks. Seems strange that I do not hear shooting from my house. If they are whacking them they must be shooting canvasbacks. Anybody go hunting there today?

Everything I've heard it's been spotty. No reports of teal. Just Cans, Mallards, Pintails, and a few Grays. Then again for the last week it's sounded like there were no birds in the north and central parts of the state.

My hunting buddy and I went hunting this morning. It was foggy. After fog lifted the ducks began to move some. We killed 5 gadwalls and 3 blue winged teal. One of the blue wings was a male and he was in full plumage. That is the first time I have ever seen one in full plumage. Usually if you kill one he is just beginning to have the white half moon stripe on his head. Very unusual to kill blue wings in January around here. We saw more pintails than mallards but not large numbers of either. At legal shooting hours there were hardly any birds moving. No woodducks. No teal.
