Ran into a Biologist friend from Outta State here for conference..and field trippin spotted them off the portland head light..close to 1/2 doz..2 adaults..full plumage..then he asked me about the so-called H-----g G----e-and his partner who when read the report by Audubon Soc. on spotting same birds during hunting season --they went down and killed the King Eider and use it as a prop for advertising sea-ducking in Maine he said he's heard that story everywhere..he did say he was shown the picture of the fellows in the web site holding the King..some folk lore just hangs around like ther plague..mysteries of the high seas..

Thats me Doug. The rumor going around is false. First it wasnt off Portland headlight. Second I saw that bird on 3 occassions before we where able to kill it. We had it decoy one day with full limits while we were pulling decoys. Third I never saw the bird listing on Audobon site I saw it listed on mainebirder.net the night before we went after it, AFTER we decicded to go after it, and it was a 3 day old listing. Fourth I dont promote Maine king hunting other then to say its a long shot a real long shot. Yes the pic is on my website. If you got a mature king like that here, in Maine, you would be happy also and put it up on your favorite bragging board. Fifth and most imortantly ,if a guy did see a king listed on a website and went after it then good for him! Use the recourses at hand. If the birders put it up on the WORLD WIDE WEB then it will get read. No law or moral code broken. The jack ass from channel 6 tried to make a big deal about our trip based on rumors and we tuned his sorry butt quickly also. In fact he dropped it and shut up about it. Sixth there is not 1/2 dozens kings off Portland headlight. It is a well known spot for an occasional king spotted by the birders, nearly yearly. Clearly some exaggeration or incompetence going on. Seventh I hear about kings from lobster fisherman buddies and I do use the birder sites for confirmation. Its only smart to do so before driving a boat all over the place. Eighth the gunner isnt my partner, he is my buddy and my biggest business competition. So you see all those 'facts' were inaccurate.

Please tell us your bios name as he clearly works for the CNN. I would love to call him and stop the slander. I had to speak to one bio and a news caster already about spreading slander.

so you are telling me that you do your homework and take out your paying clients to be on what could be a once in a lifetime bird. you do what ever you need to do to make sure that the people that pay to go out gets into thebirds. you should be ashamed of yourself. oh yeah do you have any openings for next year.

Thats good take'em! I dont take anyone out for specifiacally Kings. If I know of one we are going after it. But I keep my mouth shut about it, because its such a long shot. The rest is accurate, thanks for the props!
