Just wondering if anyone has hunted Assateague Island since the season has reopened. We were thinking of taking a trip down after christmas but just worried about no ducks being there.
We used to use Assateague blinds & sites about 8 yrs ago but not anymore. We have several blind sites inc South Point but usually hunt the non-federal islands or open water with 19 ft grey Carolina skiff or 2 Barnegat sneakboxes. We have limited out on Brant last 4 times but have to work for the birds! Lack of Blacks, sprig, Broadbill, spoonies, etc is very evident, . My Remington 11 sportsman is very mad at me at the lack of action !! :lol3: :lol3: :hammer:
Well thanks for the heads up...not sure if we'll make the trip down or not. Hopefully they'll be a big push this week and next...but im guessing i have a better shot at winning the lottery!
I live up in York, PA, but im originally from Baltimore. We usually make a few trips a year down there, but last year really sucked and i'd hate to go there and take my gun for a walk!
I grew up on Long Island (Great South Bay area near Wantagh & Jones Beach ) & when you said "coming down" I thought perhaps that area. Just checking.
I love hunting there, just because I don't have to deal with any crowds- you either get a blind, or you don't. I've seen more Brant than ever, but that's pretty much it. The blinds are 50/50, and even the ones still standing (they rebuilt a few this summer, before the storm) are sort of "wrong" now. They're very nice blinds (the new ones), but are just in the wrong location because of the shore line changes. My "go to" blind used to be about 10 yards into the marsh- it's now 15 feet out in the bay, surrounded by water. But it is very comfortable! :lol3:
Yea i have to agree, the blinds seem to always be in the wrong spot. Thats why we hardly ever use them...always try to find a place close to the blind that gives us a better set up.
Brother and I are on our way to hunt! Really hope some of this cold weather and snow has pushed the birds down.
