Duck Rally II

Organizers of the Ducks, Wetlands and Clean Water Rally at the Capitol April 2 -- frustrated over the lack of action at the Legislature -- voted last week to hold a similar rally next year.

"We wanted dedicated funding [for natural resources], LCMR [Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources] reform and a clean water bill, and none of it happened," said Roger Pederson of Ducks Unlimited.

The group hasn't selected a date, but 2006 is an election year, which could add to the effectiveness of a rally. "We'd like at least twice as many people," he said. An estimated 5,000 people attended the April rally.

Pederson said the group intends to hold politicians accountable if they fail to support the group's goals for natural resources. It also intends to solicit more support at this summer's Game Fair in Anoka County.

Meanwhile, the Izaak Walton League intends to hold a Wetland Summit later this year to bring together citizens, organizations and agencies to discuss wetland policies and protection of wetlands.

I read in a paper about a bunch of hunter's showing up at the Minn. state capitol, with oarnge hat's on trying to get something done. I believe they were after something to do with wetland restoration( not for sure), are these the same group of people. Iowa just had a Waterfowl Summit last month, rumor's are it went very well.
