Duck Report as of January 14, 2013

This past week was characterized by rain and overflowing ditches and roads. All of the outlying areas are inundated with water which has spread the ducks out over a much greater expanse of flooded fields and brakes. We are optimistic about a good end to the Mississippi duck hunting season. In the midst of a downpour, the Quacker Smackers from North Mississippi bagged a limit of ducks on Saturday. The Shallow Minded Tail Chasers from Alabama also had a good early morning shoot but started packing it in early only to be covered up by big ducks while taking up the decoys. They returned to the same hole on Sunday but were rained out by a deluge. Our field staff duck hunting guides continue to recommend patience in the blind for more big ducks. Don't rush the hunt, minimize the decoys (group some in pairs), employ jerk strings for movement, and resist the urge for hail calls sticking instead with feed calls. Cris, the committee and I have put together a solid program for the first annual Greenwood Area Delta Waterfowl Banquet this Saturday. Tickets can be purchased from us and will be available at the door. Give us a call with any questions (Nathan @ 601-479-4873 or Cris @ 662-392-8825).

The eight week's duck harvest was 219, bringing the total number of ducks harvested this season to 2,298.
