You guys hunt X fields, flight paths, or river bottom fields? Do you wait until freeze up or earlier? Last year we had a lot better luck running traffic on ducks vs. honkers, and were able to kill plenty with the mild weather out of dry fields in the middle zone.

We do a lot of field hunting in the MO river bottoms, and also farther south of the river. It can be the best hunting you have ever had, or the most frustrating. Withers thousands are landing on us, or cruising by without a look. But daggum its fun when they are working. I am in the general area of KC ;-)

nothing like field hunting in my book. just something about setting decoys up on land, hiding in layouts, and popping out when they are sitting right on top of you. wish i could get that to happen every time!

we layout hunt meramec bottoms areas and some other fields and what not up hwy 79 outside of stl. i will say most of the time we hunt over water, but i swear that even if things aren't frozen up and birds aren't hammering the fields...you can still get them to take a look or decoy (not all the time).

a lot of guys think things have to be frozen up and the birds have to be hitting the hotter foods/grains to have success field hunting. while i will agree that those conditions can increase your success rate, you can still be successful hunting out of fields when things aren't locked up.
