I went out on the opening of Quail season today and remember now why I hate those SOB's. They just love to make you look like a fool but I did manage to get into several coveys and got a few. They are definitely the hardest bird that I hunt. My Chesapeake Helles and I are just plan Tuckered out. Scales win again

Also, I Did a little waterfowl scouting and birds seem to be holding tight. Maybe this weather change will help.

i have also been a bit frustrated by the scalies the past two weeks, especially since i don't have a dog. Just wondering if there is a type of habitat that you consistently find these quail in. I'm up in Santa Fe and have found a bit of luck between here and ABQ. However, each of the three times i managed to find birds was in a different type of habitat. Am I wasting my time this far north? I'm fairly new to this whole game so any info would be much appreciated.

Ive not found scales up north and usually hunt them south and east. They usually like areas with good cover, rocky or sandy. Good number of quail in eastern NM this year so try out there. I hunted the canadian river bottom and got into several big coveys of blues.

You still should have a good dog and if interested I'll have up for raffle this spring a top of the line German Shorthair pup. The raffle funds will go to help out a small school in north central kansas.
