Been lurkin for a while and thought I'd finally introduce myself. So..........Hi. Nice to meet all you guys and i noticed when someone asks a dumb question here many guys raz him pretty bad. I hope my questions aren't dumb. Anyway, here goes the first one.

Have you guys noticed the ducks are real call shy this year compared to previous years, or is it just me?

some guys feel good about making someone feel stupid through a computer screen. lol.

I haven't really noticed that to much, it seems the same to me as in the past. I think it all depends on where you hunt. if its pressured, they will be more call shy. if they have had time to relax in that area without being messed up by jump shooters or skybusters, then I think calls will be more effective.

Welcome...........I think there is some truth to what Gabe said about being in a highly pressured area, but I believe it is more about callling. I scout and find ducks on the river and note what they look like and how they are "set up," then I try to simulate that with decoys. But one thing I have noticed that is different about this year when it comes to calling, while hunting along the Rio Grande, is in years past I would hit them hard with calling and work them, but when they got close I would really soften up my calling, I guess what some would call "finishing" them. But this year, on more than one occasion, as soon as I let up and soften the calling, they bail. I've had more ducks come in while I'm being fairly aggressive all the way up to the point I lift my gun to shoot. Some might find things different about the ducks this year and find reasons for why they aren't shooting anything, like the 70 degree weather up to December, or the fact that there aren't many ducks because the storms we have had, have come across from Cali, and not with an artic blast from Canada. But there are a lot of ducks here, stay at it. When your calling isn't working, try calling different. try new things until you find what does work on them. Like I've said, Being more aggressive longer has worked for me this year, but that doesn't mean it will work for everyone.
