hello all...
Just moved to new jersey this year, however i have a shop up in sullivan county and the wifes family is in western new york. i've had a pretty brutal fall so far at work and it probably won't get a ton better until november, but i think i will finally be able to get out once or twice this weekend. i plan on trying to hunt in sullivan county during the regular season a bunch...thats where my boat is and that is where my decoys are currently, however, this weekend i'll be heading back to western ny in chatauqua co to visit the wife's family. her cousin has a field scouted with 150-200 birds, so there is a good chance i'll be taking a few newbs on their first field hunt. if not, i found a few good spots to hunt over water when i was there last season.

hopefully i'll run into some of ya'll this season.

Welcome, what kind of shop you run in Sullivan? I'm up there a lot.
i guess i should clarify...its actually a shop on my friends property. he just lets me use it and store things there. i'm up there a lot though. i have to get a blind on the boat in the next few weeks, so i'm guessing i will be there fairly often in the coming weeks. lots of water to explore in that area. i did just learn that one of the areas i'm looking at requires the waterfowl id course, and it looks like the dates for that have passed. is there any other way to do it? if not, i guess i'll have to skip that spot until next year. i found 2 private lakes within 5 miles of the shop that have geese, i'm hoping that there will be a few ducks on them too from time to time. the guy that owns the shop i am using is a local firefighter and pretty much knows everyone around town. it has come in handy a couple of times already...im hoping it will help me out scouting up there too.

well i wish i would have seen this earlier lol...i'll probably be back there before the season is over. this weekend was a bust though. there were lots of geese around. we had a little trouble with enterprise rental on saturday night before we left so we got home in the wee hours. after sleeping 3 hours, i rolled out for a scout. the birds were sitting fairly tight because of the rain. they quit using the field we were going to hunt, so after seeing virtually no movement in the morning, i decided to scrap the afternoon hunt and go for a scout again. i couldn't find birds anywhere in the afternoon...not sure if they moved to the lake or not. i drove over to some private ponds and swamps i know of and i even walked around watts flats for a while and didn't see a thing. at that point i pretty much gave up since we were leaving at noon the next day. i slept in a little and went out the next morning to make a phone call and load up the jeep...sure enough as soon as i started packing our stuff up there were geese flying out to feed everywhere. fortunately they did NOT use the field we were going to hunt, so at least that was a plus. i really wish i could make it back there more to hunt, i have a lot of places that i can go. my wifes family lives all over in the county and between her family, their friends and relatives they know a lot of the land owners around there.

welcome to the site...

some input on the place you mentioned.....not only do you need a waterfowl id course you need to put in for permit from the state to hunt there as well....one to hunt the first 5 days of the first split and a one to hunt the rest of the season..

good luck this season...
