Today my friend and I went out on a private swamp. We were setting up the decoys when we spooked a flock of geese about a half hour before sunrise. Then as soon as the sun came up
The ducks hit hard for the first ten minutes, flock after
Flock. Needless too say got five
Shots off in that "rush hour" with
No hits then the rest of the morning went pretty slow with some loose birds comin in here and there with no shots. My
Friends just gettin into duck huntin. I was watchin the left
Side when he goes, "what are them"
I said "ducks", as they came
In from his side and then flanked out. Saw a lot
Of birds but was very "unsuccessful".

Yeah work on your deek spread. Get them at least 30 yards out from you and make sure you are concealed and same with your equipment. Sounds to me like you guys didn't let them work, but that's my guess. If you are hidden well, you don't even have to call, just lets them come in and try to land  I only got to go out a dozen or so time at best last year, and got 85 birds.

Not that your opinion doesn't matter, but you're in California. You're completely oblivious to what duck hunting is like out here, more than likely. At a dozen times out,, you limited most days. If guys limit here once a season it's a massively successful day. I hunt 30 to 50 times a season and struggle to get to 85 birds locally.

Watch you don't get burned. Shut off the phone and talk about what part of the sky you will watch and others will. If we get distracted, we call each other out. Go earlier, hide better. Do more of what you skimped on last time and less of what you planned on. Cut the decoys and calling maybe. Don't be afraid to switch things up.

HAH... trying to get a little cocky over here? You have no clue what the difference in duck and goose hunting is in PA. The goose hunting is phenomenal... duck hunting is VERY tough. That's like comparing a Camaro to a Ford Taurus around here man.

Until you spend a season in PA... you have no clue how nice you have it. Simple as that. Not trying to argue but don't assume Mr. Don Taylor isn't as good as your "buddy" from Pa because he shoots "hundreds of geese". That's a whole different category in and of itself. It is not even comparable. My group has killed 73 geese so far this year but only 6 ducks... You can figure that out. Come to PA... experience it... I have no doubt in my mind you will never want to come back, unless you love goose hunting.
Even if you do you, you will realize how hard it gets hunted and say the heck with it! lol

LOL man it's awesome ow you can turn around a simple statement and make it appear real irrational. Now I'm kinda glad you never get ducks :lol3:

I do get ducks but what im saying is the duck hunting sucks around here. Ask anyone who was raised in the keystone state and has a brain they will tell you. Im not saying you cannot be successful at duck hunting EVER in PA but its few and far in between... a very challenging task at hand. and has a brain they will tell you. If you compared PA with any other state you would realize what I mean.

Tell me the last time you heard of a guided Pennsylvania duck hunt? There is just tons of guys traveling from all over just to come here to hunt for ducks, said no one ever. haha. Good joke man... Get real. This is the duck desert.

Live It and you would realize where I am coming from? Ya can shoot limits of geese every day if you know a thing or two and have the spots and time. Again that is not even a good comparison.

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with somebody from California who thinks the average Pa hunter drops, or can drop, over 100 geese a season. Not a group total, single handed. I don't target geese, they're a sometimes target when duck hunting.

Being a mod here and being on several forums, being a Delta Waterfowl chairman and knowing most people in the waterfowling industry, if you live in California and know this guy, I'm almost certain I know them too. There are few guys who do that well, very few.

Lastly, if you sneeze at what i just posted about struggling to get to 85 birds, it shows you have no idea. Most guys, dedicated guys on this page, might manage 40 a season. The 20's is where many guys lie, just based on how many times they can get out.
