Anyone care to suggest some management areas worth hunting near newport? I'm not looking for your honey hole, but I'm new to the area and will only be here for one season so I'd like to get an idea of what public areas are worth/not worth hunting.
I don't need limits, but I'd like to keep my dog sharp and at least get him a few birds this season
I am mostly interested in puddlers, but will shoot sea ducks if they are accessible with a canoe or kayak.
Hey man I just moved to Middletown RI and I go to school at Salve Regina. We should meet up sometime because I've scouted a few spots already that look great for mallards.
I've been trying a few spots in exeter around Ryan Park but that is as far as I've gotten around there. I'm definitely interested in learning the good spots though. If you're willing to take me sometime I'd be most appreciative because it's getting frustrating trying to find where the ducks are up here.
I spent the day in Tiverton, barely saw any birds, but somehow wound up with 1 in the bag. If the puddles had stayed frozen I think there might have been more. I would be willing to go to Exeter or most anywhere else within 45 minutes or so. Is it worth hunting in arcadia? I see there is water, but not sure what kind of ducks it holds.
with the freze here its hard to find freash water ducks. if i see some flying by a spot often and its only an over night ice you can break a good size spot and throw some decoys in it you can get them close
Yea, as I've been scouting I have made it a point to find fresh water spots along with brackish water spots. I've never hunted so close to the coast, but it seems like mallards and black ducks use the marshes sometimes...worth a try.
i hunt marshes most the season so much water is frozen even now that i see good numbers there
