I'm not a local Guy. I live about 600 miles from SC.

I have hunted down there and can tell you this.

Can't remember which lake it is, but if you can Find Potatoe Creek, you get back in the Swamp and you are into Birds!

It is out side of Manning area. Closer to Sumerton.

Anyone know if the Sumerton Diner is Still open?

Great Food there. Everytime I went down to hunt, had to eat Lunch there!

I live on Murray, but don't hunt it much. When the birds are here you can do pretty good on any of the big islands. We have a lot of local birds. I hunt down at Santee. Potatoe Creek Landing is on the North side of Lake Marion across I-95 bridge. I hunt out of Low Falls Landing and Stump Hole Landing. It would be about a 1 1/2 hr drive for you to get there. A lot of woodies at first light, then some ring necks, teal, and mallards (when they're here). Haven't scouted it out enough this year to tell where the birds might be. Anyone care to drop a hint? Good hunting to you.

I'm from Holly Hill, SC which is about 1 hr from Charleston and about an hour from Manning. I've never hunted Lake Murray, but if you would like I can help you out on hunting around Charleston on the coast where you can kill some pintails and wigeon and some divers. I can also talk to you about some places on the Santee-Cooper Lakes which is where i grew up. Just PM me and i'll talk to ya about some duck hunting.

Im from Aiken County and we mainly hit around Parkesville but are trying to move further North and see what we can find. I know a lot of hunters that hunt Murray and its just one of those things you got to scout your spot and just go out there. They have been so many hunters each year trying to get out there its crazy and some places we dont even try to go anymore b/c of some many rubberheads. Like opening morning for example 12+ trucks and the landing when we got there and some spent the night and one was from charleston  You really need to have some private land or find some swampy stuff to get some birds. Murray is just about known for its coot population anymore. Woodies are still good sometimes its just hit and miss anymore, I dont think its worth coming from charleston really. We plan on going down around Hilton Head/Ridgeland where my buddy lives and help them out some. Just PM or post up if you need something else and I will help all I can

You're right, the coast can be excellent hunting. Just make sure if you don't know where you are going, you are with someone that does. If you're from Charleston try hunting around Bear Island, but make sure you're not on Bear Island WMA or the game wardens will get you. The best thing to do is just go out there and scout and learn the area. Good hunting to everybody.
