Hey guys,
I am new to Texas and to this forum. My family and I moved from Florida a few months ago where I had been duck hunting for over 25 years. I have to say, while the landscape is beautiful to most, to a duck hunter, it leaves a lot to be desired. No more miles of fresh/saltwater marshes and acres of cattails, wigeon grass and other aquatic vegetation. I have a feeling that I will need to completely change up my approach to Texas duck hunting. In the next few weeks I plan on scouting the local lakes and possibly the river (if I can find an access ramp). I have always enjoyed traveling and hunting new places and cant wait to really explore the opportunities that this great state has to offer.
"I am not from Texas, but I got here as quick as I could"
Sorry for the misleading subject title. Not attempting to free load. Should have stated 'New to Waco'. Do not want to get started off on the wrong foot. My apologies
To the OP while there are no open marshes and miles of open water plenty of opportunities on lakes and cattle tanks in Central Texas. Lots of puddlers and lots of ducks if you look for them.
Apparently the crime rate in Waco IS very high. Actually, higher than Killeen and Temple, which contradicts everything I have been told by those living here (in Waco). However, coming from Orlando, it is still not as bad as that. I think Orlando's crime rate is a 2 out of 100. Waco is sitting at a 6. Still, kind of shocking. I am mostly in the China Spring area, so maybe I just have not been subjected to that scene (yet).
I think China Springs is just home robberies while you're at work. Isn't there a large amount of meth labs there? Although Lorena just had a working meth lab busted.
China spring is a nice area with access to brazos. I live in reisel now my wife works at hillcrest. Like what was mentioned before lots of opportunity in Texas it just looks different

So some idiot at the new cabelas in Waco decided the best time for a grand opening is the opening day of duck and deer season. Will be a big day for selling for fishing gear I guess

the Waco paper reported a couple of weeks ago that the grand opening was scheduled for the 30th. I agree that if they have to move it to opening weekend, that would be a mistake. It will be nice to have it here though. We are kind of limited having only The Academy and Walmart.
