Ducks around Waco??

Hey guys,
I am new to Texas and to this forum. My family and I moved from Florida a few months ago where I had been duck hunting for over 25 years. I have to say, while the landscape is beautiful to most, to a duck hunter, it leaves a lot to be desired. No more miles of fresh/saltwater marshes and acres of cattails, wigeon grass and other aquatic vegetation. I have a feeling that I will need to completely change up my approach to Texas duck hunting. In the next few weeks I plan on scouting the local lakes and possibly the river (if I can find an access ramp). I have always enjoyed traveling and hunting new places and cant wait to really explore the opportunities that this great state has to offer.

Apparently the crime rate in Waco IS very high. Actually, higher than Killeen and Temple, which contradicts everything I have been told by those living here (in Waco). However, coming from Orlando, it is still not as bad as that. I think Orlando's crime rate is a 2 out of 100. Waco is sitting at a 6. Still, kind of shocking. I am mostly in the China Spring area, so maybe I just have not been subjected to that scene (yet).

Avoid Bellmead like the plague though. If you aren't sure where it is, stay away from the place that smells like a whole city crapped in the street.

So some idiot at the new cabelas in Waco decided the best time for a grand opening is the opening day of duck and deer season. Will be a big day for selling for fishing gear I guess
You've got to be chitting me. Good thing I don't want to buy a new set of waders for this season.

Heard it from their person in charge of marketing. I thought about camping out for free stuff but no chance now. Might as well open at noon
Yep. I may go just for the free crap and hunt the evening.

the Waco paper reported a couple of weeks ago that the grand opening was scheduled for the 30th. I agree that if they have to move it to opening weekend, that would be a mistake. It will be nice to have it here though. We are kind of limited having only The Academy and Walmart.
