The good hunting is typically right in the middle of the lake. You'll notice some rafts of birds there. The best thing you can do ... cause you'll want to be comfortable ... is decorate your bass boat with some camouflage tarps and some driftwood, some logs, some cattails and a bunch of sand and then anchor up out in the middle. You won't even need to wear camouflage, you'll already look like an island just make sure you don't bunch up the tarps around where you're sitting because it'll be hard to swing on the birds when they come in. A hefty rod and reel with a giant topwater on the line is a great way to retrieve downed birds but if they float out of casting range just fire up the ole outboard, the wake will add some motion to your spread if you use one. I like to tip my hot buys with about 43 foot of decoy string to make sure there's some slack if the waves get choppy. And the really great thing is that when you're hunting your own island you can grill too. Ducks don't really seem to flare off the smoke when we do this at all. My suggestion would be to grill your pork chops to at least an internal temperature of 160 degreed F.
Might wanna take some loaves of bread too..... Corn sinks and the water is a tad bit deep there. Be sure and bring t shot for the hook billed geese as well.....
If I were you I'd go to the NorthWest corner of the lake. It's a bird "sanctuary," so there are always tons of ducks there.
Seriously though, it probably isn't the best idea to come onto an internet forum two days before the opener and ask for spots on one of the most hunted lakes in NTX. People don't like to post the spots that took them months, or even years to find on a public site so that every other person in Dallas can use it. Get out and scout. There are plenty of places to hunt on the lake, but you'll have to put in the work yourself, or get lucky and have someone show you.
haha you can hunt on the outside and try to hit them as they exit or fly back in... :hammer:
