Don't know how many of you guys might of met old John that had the little camper that he stayed in during waterfowl season at Dead Creek. I just found out he passed away in Feb. Before they put the restrictions in on the number of days you could stay there, John pulled in and stayed all season.
He could be a pain at times and drank too much and is one of the reasons that the restrictions on camping went in .
But John never hunt anyone and was always there to give you the "local" update on the hunting (?) and to keep an eye on your boat if you wanted to leave it in overnight for the next days hunt. He always had stories to tell about his past, if you took the time to talk with him.

I always thought about getting him a sign for his camper that declared him as the Mayor of Dead Creek, now I will never get the chance to bestoe this honor on him. They say that John lived for his time at Dead Creek and that after he couldn'r spend his season there he just gave up. I don't know how old he was but I would guess he must have been in his 80's at least.
Many people say that John was a real pain in the ass, and I did too at times, but I also thought of him as a friend and I for one will miss him greeting me when I came down to hunt.

Rest in peace in that Big Marsh in the sky.
