:hi: So it's been awhile since I posted anything. Thought i would send an update on the Columbia and what's in my neck of the woods. I have finally laid down some quality diver hunts this early season with some friends without having too many birds in the area. None the less there was one bird that was dying, literally, to get into the spread. Wait for it, Wait for it,.............Ya thats right gents the lowly little black and whites themselves, Buffies. Butterballs,Hollywoods,Buffs,or Sh-t ducks. By whatever you call 'em they're here in good numbers this year. The last week has produce some sick #'s and ton of fast flying fun. All in all, three hunts and 50 Buffies surrender to the gun. Just a few pics, the most impressive was the 4 man limit in two hours :grooving: !!!!!! (pIc of the five was half of one our hunts.)

So what do u do with a buffie? Pluck and roast or cut all the meat off. I guess if u get a lot of them u have a meal.
Pile up the meat, and run it through a grinder and into the tubes!

Ya, all these buffies and other divers will be turned into pep sticks, chilli meat, or smoked. All divers except the gingers get it. Only the reds and cans are actually cooked using various methods. Man they clean, cook, and taste good!

Nice!

I had my first experience with these little guys today. Never saw them where I grew up hunting. Today on the Snake literally right after I threw my last decoy in the water three female buffleheads flew right into my spread not 10 feet away from me. I just stood there shocked that they were so eager to dive so close to me. I grabbed my gun but couldn't bring myself to shoot them point blank with 2's. They flew off shortly afterward. Regretting not shooting them now because I didn't see anything else all day.

: Always a good time ... but then again I'm a diver guy, and even though yeah, not the smartest ... they are a diver guys teal and I'll set up to smoke'em as much as I can!

Now, that being said ... its a pain in the asssssssss to set up for Reds and Blues ... and get NOTHING but wave after wave after wave of Buff's

: Do believe we got a couple called "Skippys" over the weekend. I will say that the little bastards are here in DECENT numbers.

And for the record, you pile'em up in good numbers, they make a REALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY good stack for the grinder/pep stick collection. At 25lbs a batch, yeah, it will take a few of them, but isn't that why we call it hunting gents, .... and NOT grocery shopping.

Wish I could go out more with a few more of the gents here, ... but got this thing called "Life" and "Work" that's throwing a huge monkey wrench in my un-wind time. Sucks. But I'll subscribe to the "Quality than Quanity" theory for awhile.

Great pic! I have no problems shooting buffs. The only ducks I wouldn't shoot on purpose are mergs and coots so far. And if I did, they wouldn't be completly waisted. They make for great training aids if you have a dog. I'll pass on buffs if the larger ducks are coming in, but if not, I'm not so picky that I won't take them, fun little ducks to hunt imo.
