First thing is first. Are those two the same thing?! I was just wondering. Anyways, we have 18 acres of controlled flooded land that as of yet has no duck food in it. The ducks just come in to rest. Also we are next to bunches of dried (normally flooded) areas with what we are told to be smart grass. We talked to a biologist and he told us that the kind that you want is the annual stuff that reseeds itself every year. He showed us what we had was the other kind that comes back every year. He said the difference was the seed heads are a lot bigger on the annual ones. When I hiked in there later I saw the same type of grass but it looked different. It had bigger individual stalks with roots on everyone. Also the seed heads were about 3 times bigger. I believe this is the annual smart grass. They are all brown now which I dont know if the entire plant is supposed to when they shed the seeds?! I picked about 3 buckets worth of the seed heads and distributed them out into our flooded land. some in the really shallow water and some on land. Does anybody have input as to whether or not to expect these to sprout plants next year? Does anybody have experience with smart grass as of its effectivness?! I appreciate any input!!! thanks
