I had had a couple...and they are and alright call. They can be modified and will be close to a short reed...
You got the call that started the goose flute craze before short reeds were the norm. They were the most common goose call around about 25 years ago. It is the call that people modified and that call makers copied. They can still kill geese.
Removing the bottom bell is the first thing. Then you can adjust the reed to tune the call to your liking. Some guys like to shave or sand the reeds. You can also put a Grounds flute reed and/or guts in it. Since they don't make Olts anymore you may want to keep it original. You can remove the bell but don't throw it away. You can retune it but don't alter the original parts. The 2nd and 3rd calls up from the bottom in the picture are retuned with the bells removed. Modified Olts used to win the world goose calling championship.
I like the way that later production camo call sounds, better than the way the modified Olts or earlier production A-50's sound.
