Flagging specks

Need some insight on a problem I'm contemplating. Should I or shouldn't I try to flag in specks. Here in Gueydan, LA. I tend to kill 5-6 Canadians a year, but my main bird is Speckle-belly. I have never tried to flagging just wondering if anyone has had enough success with flagging in specks to worry about it. Wish I had more Canadians, down here.

My experience has been that specks pretty much ignore a flag so I don't bother with it. However, if there's even a single Canada in the flock I will use it. More than once I've had the Canada react to the flagging and bring one or all of his speck buddies with him.

I hunt your area and have had great luck flagging specks - from a distance and in the middle of a big spread. The rubs are that specks seem tend to look things over a lot harder than the northern Canadas I grew up with and most of our speck hunting is done from pit blinds or out of tall levee grass that it's best not to draw attention to. I'd suggest trying flagging on distant specks but be very cautious about overdoing when they've turned and focused on you. Fwiw, though, I very seldom flag now that we're no longer working out of big white spreads for them, and when I do, it's a desperation move like simply waving my hat at birds that showed interest in the call but have turned their backs. Sometimes works. Most times just waving goodbye.
