yote calling is a blast i really enjoy it but about the only time i have very good luck is once the ground is frozen good.
yote main diet is mice belive it or not so once the ground gets frozen mice get hard to find they get hungry.

heres the basics.....in a nutshell and by no means anything other than what i have learned and my opinions.......

when picking a place to make a set the most important thing just like deer is wind...yotes love to circle and come in down wind either sit were you can see down wind or use somthing like a river down wind or creek so they cant totally circle they are k9 and can smell good and will use that sence.

when calling yotes i typically use a few howls kinda a wake up tell them hey i am here and something is going on....there are different types of howls if you don't know and using hand calls for get howls and skip using them the wrong kind is an alert howl and will send them packing.......now if bobbys are something you might want...DO NOT HOWL you howl and no cat is going to come...

after two or three howls or a series of them about 15 20 seconds thats all for howls...
after that i go to a distress call...typically i use the rabbit sound and start soft you might be close to one....i typically call 30 seconds and quit for a min and go again....if nothing is in site increse the volume to range out a bit farther.... i will do this one and off for 10-15 mins.

once i see some thing i stop calling as long as its coming once they chose to come they typically come you can stop calling if you can see them comming if they stop quickly give a short call normally i will just make a kissing smack with my lips on the back of my hand and thats all it takes.

when calling yotes 90 percet of the yotes i have call have been with in shooting distance with in 5-7 mins if i am being serious about it i never set more than 20 mins in a set for a yote ......now if your calling bobcats its toally different story they normally sneak in and takes a good 30-45 mins usually and they are edge animals like deer you won't have much luck calling them out in the open they will come to edges and alot of times sit down and just check things out....its wise to use something with movement to distract them so you can see them before they do you something as simple as a feather on a string hanging down almost to the ground works well if theres a bit of wind to twrill it.

yote hunting is kinda like run and gun turkey hunting typically i will make a set move 300-500 yrds and make another depends on how strong the wind is and how rough the lay of the land is if its a calm day and wind light i move farther

as you can see you can cover alot of land in a day calling yotes and i have killed as many carrying a shotgun as i have my rifle when calling if i am with a buddy one of us always has a shot gun especally if were calling in thick stuff....THEY COME RUNNING IF THEY COME i have NEVER had a yote just sneak or walk it its ALWAYS at a run or trot.
also i would say 50% of successful sets will result in a single yote and the other 50% of successful sets will be a group of 2-3 i can only think of one time i ever called a group of more than 3
down south i get lots of foxes when calling yotes too never had any foxes come to me hunting north....haven't figured out the whys to that yet.....but foxes down south are easy easy prey....

success rates....on a good day honestly in an area with lots of know yotes i might call in a yote or group of them 2 or 3 sets outta 10 sets and that is a great day.

i have been told that sept is also a great month to call as theres lots of young dumb pups but i am always bow hunting and never tryied much that time of year....
i also have better luck when its frozen cold as heck but little to no snow...seems odd but i have called more when theres at least 50% bare frozen hard ground as opposed to same temps with fully covered snow not figured that out yet either but just what i have observed in my hunting.

any how thats how i hunt in an nut shell its fun cheap and somethign to do in winter....
i guess its the cattle farmer in me but i love killing yotes any one that knows me really well knows even durning deer season i never pass up a yote i honestly don't know that i would pass one if a yote and a 150 class deer were in the feild together i would probley take the yote....just love killing the things LOL....

well i have ben predator hunting for about two years now. im 14 and i bought a fox pro recently if your gonna get serious i would buy a fox pro or any electronic call. if you just went out and you have already had succes i would say thats good. some of the pros today say when they first started it took them 70 to 80 stands to see anything. just stay at it they will come in
