Hearing protection?

Ok boys.

Not sure what forum I should have posed this question? So sorry if this is not the correct one.

I have met a few hunting old timers who can't hear very well and was wondering when you are out in the field or blinds with your boom-stick hunting flying critters, do you wear hearing protection? If so, what kind? I am open to anything but my daughter's pink fluffy ear muffs.... :toofunny:

Cheers,

Jim

Usually if I have trouble with my ears it is my left ear that gives me the problem. It's like that for a lot of guys. One ear will take the majority of the concussion depending on how they mount the gun. As a rule I don't wear any type of hearing protection in the field, but on certain occasions when I know I am going to shoot a high volume of shells such as dove hunting or sporting clays I will use a soft foam ear plug in my left ear only. That way my most vulnerable ear is protected but I can still hear people talking.

i, like many hunters, do not wear hearing protection in the field. I do wear it for trap shooting and sighting in my guns and the like, but am very dependent on my hearing while out hunting in the field. They make the new ear protection that will amplifly soft noises and prevent the loud noises from being heard, but they are rather expensive. It's up to you as to how you want to go about it, you'll just have to find what works for you.

i'm 27 and i already suffer from a constant ringing in my ears from a life of shooting without hearing protection. i absolutely will not hunt without an earplug now, even if its just one quick shot. if i need to be involved in conversation i quickly pop it in or out. I am also looking at a new product that enhances your hearing but has a circuitry (sp) that cuts off with a gun blast. i think cabelas has them for $50 a pair or something.

Nobaby has tried walkers game ear, well me neither, i just use foamies, you can still hear if someone is talkin and yet protect your ears. Got to have'm if you still want to hear you naggin wife at 50 or if you want to get all sentamental then you might want to hear you daughter say i love you. Keep it safe guys.

When I am just out shooting sheet with the kids we all have ear muffs. When in the field wear cheap plugs, I have been known to drop them.

i grew up in the 90's when it was the rage to crank up the radio, so im deaf already from that, if your neighbors can't hear it its to low. i use ear plugs for dove and duck, i dont use them for deer or turkey, need to be able to hear clucks or scrapes.
