New Truck with Upgrades - Good or Bad?

I bought an '07 Silverado 5.3 4x4 last month. It came with a couple mechanical/electrical upgrades that I'm looking at getting rid of. I have the same engine in my '99 but get MUCH worse gas mileage in the '07. Now I'm not a mechanical guru whatsoever... I'll have to post some pictures, but off the top of my head there is a K&N Fuel Injector Kit that reads "Stage 2" on it. I'm guessing part of that kit includes an air filter since the factory housing for the air filter is gone. There is power running from the battery to the K&N system in 2 places. Does that mean blower? I'm also pretty sure the computer has been reprogrammed. That truck has some get up 'n go. I'm not a flashy guy, I'd rather have factory basics.

My questions are:
Should I keep the K&N system?
Is it in my best interest to reprogram to factory defaults?

I know pictures would help out a lot... I'll try to get some up sometime soon. Thanks in advance for some advice!

Yes the FIPK is a cold air intake, but IMO not a good one. The K&N will flow better than the stock system in terms of cfm but will not filter better than the stock paper filter. IMO keep the FIPK but replace the crappy K&N filter with something that will filter better like an Amsoil filter

I just bot a 2007 LT (2wd) so I have been in the same boat.

I had a 2000 sonoma and I put a FIPK k&N on it and got about 1.5-2mpg better mileage (it was the 4.3L v6). I'm sold on the K&N stuff and if you type in "2007 silverado increase MPG" in google you get a ton of results like this one:

It seems as though a K&N cold air intake kit, and programmer will be the first step for me. And it that isn't good enough, I'll get the exhuast as well.

Just do this and read everything you can.

good luck!
