Hello all. I was just looking at some pictures online of those beautiful Paradise Ducks. I was wondering if it is a Dabbler or a Diver? Do they taste any good? Just curious.
They are actually a Shelduck which is neither a puddle duck or diver, different genus covering 6 species plus one that is extinct on 4 continents. They feed a lot on dry land like geese. We shoot them over both water and rye grass fields in New Zealand. They decoy well ane are pretty vocal. They taste OK, but can be a little strong depending on their diet. Not my favorite to eat of the NZ birds, but very attractive birds and about the size of a Ross' Goose.
