Hi Ladies! Duck season opened up for us here in Central MA yesterday, and I was able to get out for a quick hunt with my husband this morning before work. He did the work, I did the shooting  It was a great morning; he called in a few ducks, I got a few shots, and took my first hen mallard. Looking forward to deer opening up on Monday! Now if I can just find a way out of work

Anyone else have anything so far this year?

Congrats! Can't wait for my first one. I went out with some of my coworkers opening day here in the Northwest. It was a good start to the season and I'm getting more eager to start getting my fill of ducks
I hear ya! I went out a few times with my husband last year before I was licensed and although it was fun and all, nothing like getting out there and being able to take your own! Let us know how your first hunt goes, post some pics!

Deer opened up here today and I'm trying to get out for a few hours before dark.... sure gets addicting!

Awesome! The itch only gets worse from here on out! lol. Do you bow hunt as well? I gun hunt, but bow season interferes with duck season, and duck season wins every day of the week.

Hunting's been up and down for my husband and I. We drove a bit north and hunted Michigan's middle zone opener the first week of October and didn't do that well. Normally it's a great spot, but the wind was all wrong that weekend, we ended up with 4. A greenhead, a greenwing teal, and a pair of wood ducks. The following weekend was our southern zone opener and we had a great shoot at a special little wood duck hole we hunt on public land. We were one shy of a 3-person limit of geese and had our limit of wood ducks early. We sat around for a few hours hoping for some mallards, but only saw one hen. Ended the day with 5 geese and 9 wood ducks.

Last week we took our annual vacation to the Upper Peninsula's Drummond Island. The weather and birds didn't really cooperate for duck hunting so we grouse and woodcock hunted instead. And it was good shooting, we really got into the timberdoodles and my in-laws beagles did great running snowshoe hares. The guys shot quite a few, but I've determined I make a better flusher. lol. Nearly every time a bird flushed were I might be able to get a shot, I was in the middle of climbing over a deadfall or getting my gun tangled up in tree branches. lol. That's ruffed grouse hunting though.

Outdoor GAl - I'll be following your posts religiously! I'm going out for the first time this year to duck hunt. Never hunted in my life! But i found a few good folks to take me in under their wing. I'm loving hearing about other bird hunting.

Thanks for sharing!

lol. Well, I only have 5 years into waterfowling myself, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. lol. I've always been the outdoorsy type and grew up deer hunting with my dad, but I didn't start shotgunning until I got married. I LOVE it though and definately prefer waterfowling and bird hunting to deer hunting. Gotta love opening day of deer season though. And it's a great way to fill the freezer.

My dad never hunted. The only chasing he did...was skirts (5 kids, 3 different wives). And my exhusband, although he grew up a boy scout, eagle scout, duck hunted as a kid, trained dogs to hunt, and is a dog trainer now... Didn't want us to get a dog to hunt, or offered to teach our boys (hunting). So here I am, single, 43 yr old, and figuring, ah the heck with WAITING on someone else.. I'll MAKE this happen one way or another!!!

You ladies that grew up doing outdoor things w/your dads, have no idea how lucky you were. Bonus if you do them with your hubbies. :crying:
