Making your own open water?

Postby billybass23 » Sun Dec 11, 2005 8:35 pm

with this cold front settling in and everything freezing up I was just wondering if anyone has any successful tips for hunting over the ice. I have hear a few things about dying the ice blue with clothes die, or laying out blue plastic tarps with decoys on them, to simmulate open water. I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with this type of thing, or have hear if it really workes.

I'm really looking in to the plastic tarps layed down right on the ice to give the apperance of soft water. any tips or advice on this subject would be helpful. thanks.

Im trying the tarp thing tomorrow afternoon. I have read good things.

Try an old chainsaw with no bar oil to cut a hole in the ice.

Black plastic works better than blue.

I agree with not using blue....too opaque....I use clear actually and have had excellent success in fields....maybe black is the key on ice though
