Duck hunting trip

Postby cy19 » Wed Aug 22, 2012 11:49 am

Hey guys. Im not really sure where to put this, but i have a very general question so if its not in the right forum my apologies My dad and I are wanting to take a duck hunting trip soon. I am open to going north or south(i live in Illinois). However, I don't really want it to be completely guided. Part of the fun, to me, is setting decoys and calling. You guys have any idea if anuthinglije that exists? If so, where? I appreciate any help. Thanks

A lot of states have guide services that lease out blinds for a few days. No guide or anything, probably have to supply your own decoys also.

I'm not really sure about dates. Haven't really got that far lol.

I'll defiantly check out the state blinds. Thanks for the heads up.

I could be wrong but I am not sure that's exactly what he meant, cy19. I think he meant in that various states there are private guides on private lands where you don't have to use the guide. Just be a matter of researching where you'd really like to go.

Ok ok. I gotcha. The ol man keeps saying Arkansas but it makes more sense to me to go north because the birds haven't been shot at all winter long. I guess we need to cOme to a conclusion on where we're going lol.

I've hunted with a few guides that did not mind the hunters helping with hauling, setting and picking up the deeks as well as joining in with the calling (as long as the hunter knew what he was doing with the call). Matter of fact I've hunted with guides that were decent at best with a call and I actually called the largest group of birds into the decoys while the guides were B/S'ing with each other on my last Arkansas trip. When talking with the outfitter you just need to ask what their policy is as far as hunter participation. Many do not mind the freelancing part of the hunter but you will probably pay the same price as a fully guided hunt where they do everything.
