Postby Pit_Boss » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:57 am

Okay im new to the duck hunting . I live on the eastern shore of maryland goosin is great, but duck numbers are down we just built a 1 1/2 acre duck pond which at its deepest is 18in. The pond is in the middle of a corn field in a low area and is also seeded with rice. We have 3 dz. duck floaters is that enough for this pond, will we need some goose floaters wew have plenty of goose shells fulls silos, any advice would be great, from decoy set ups to calling anything and everything. THANKS A MILLION

Ya Man...If it aint broke....dont fix it. Generally we try to imatate what our birds in our area are doing. Early in the season, Ill knock the crap outta dux with 3 decoys. Later in the season, the birds buch up, so, Ill toss out more blocks. Maybe try utilizing " family" pods, and, the Golden Rule...DO NOT OVER CALL

Setup some of the goose decoys behind you on shore, then your ducks out in front or off to one side with goose floaters on the other. Man i wish i had a spot like yours
Season Totals-
2 Mallards
2 Blacks
15 Green Wing
5 Wood Ducks
1 Can.
1 Pintail
Hooded Merganser

that sounds like an instant honey hole. Like gooseboy said, you shouldn't have any trouble killing ducks. Ducksbeus had good advise, scout the area prior to opening and duplicate what you see. If your not a seasoned caller keep it to a minumum. I jealous
