Wood ducks

Postby Duck Collector » Sat Feb 23, 2013 7:29 pm

I was out fishing on the lake today and the strangest thing ever happened. As we were fishing, wood ducks started to fly over us and began rafting out in the middle of a large lake. There were probably close to 1,000 wood ducks rafted on the lake like divers do (a huge popular fishing lake) they would fly just over our heads and land in the lake. They would squeal everytime a woodie would come over and they would just suck in. And there were boats going everywhere and people out in house all along the lake and the ducks continued to land. It was just the strangest thing i have ever seen

Just thought i would share this. I have a video of our boat running through the raft and jumping them but i dont know how to post it. And i dont have you tube.

Very interesting. I find it odd that they were all Wood Ducks though. I'm sure there were other ducks in there too

Cool story, thanks for sharing

Nope they were all woodies. They started to trickle in one at a time and every one flew over our heads and squealed all the way till they landed.

The water was about 5ft deep. There was alittle pininsula covered in short grass and cypress trees. Im thinking they were trying to roost there.

Not trying to be an ass, but why do people do this? Heck they've been pounded for the last 60 days. Why not leave 'em alone and let them do their thing while you enjoy the show?

I "enjoyed the show" for about an hour and then it started to get dark. I also had to go right through them to get to where i was going. I will also say that they had no problem with people. There was a neighborhood less that 50yds from them and boats trolling up to docks near them, they would just jump up then circle out and come right back.
