Odd Malard

Postby Dallashunter » Tue Mar 19, 2013 4:57 pm

Its March in NEPA and all thats left here is mallards, blacks, and divers. Now today only half the pond was frozen so we did some fishing. There was a group of mallards on the pond but one had different traits. unlike normal mallards it didnt have a brown chest or a ring around its neck. It had the green head and yellow bill but was slightly bigger than the other mallards. I am stumped as to what it could be. if anyone has a clue please let me know! thanks!

Cannot see the image. I'd love to see it as I have never seen a duck going fishing.

I saw a mallard almost exactly like that. Normal size, only the one I saw wasn't a light color. It was missing the color on its chest. I'd say maybe it's a color mutation. Cool duck though.

mallards are the forfathers of all domestic ducks except for mascovies and can interbreed with them all.
a mallard drake with woopy making on his mind has been compared with a marine on shore leave, I would suggest your mallard has mixed parentage. we see it alot here in N.Z. with mallards crossing with grey/black ducks all the time and domestic ducks when ever they get the chance. have you seen the S.A version of a mallard they are as big as a goose!!!cant think off top of my head what they are called, same colouration just huge.
found it on another thread..rhuen or something like that sorry guys my spelling aint flash
