New spot Question???

Postby clymerfowler » Thu Oct 10, 2013 12:14 pm

Okay i have this new spots. it part of a huge swamp area. duck come in by the thousands come late season. it sounds like a zoo at dark when your archery hunting. i have this spot thats fairly open and duck loft about 200-300 yards away in the thick buckbruck stuff you cant hunt. the water is about knee to waist deep and there are lily pads everywhere. have any of you ever hunted a area like this. plan on running 14 mallards, 6 black, 1 pintail, and two mojos(one baby drake, one teal)
in standing where i plan to hunt.

If its private drag somthin across the bottom to get rid of some lilies to make a hole and rake it out. Jerk string will be your friend in a hole like that with stale water.

Only one sure way to find out..

You dont need to remove anything, Just throw out a dozen decoy's and go with it. I hunt a backwater river area almost identical to this.
"Thomas Jefferson said I had a God-given right to pursue happiness. What makes me happy is to take a mallard's head smooth off at about 20 feet.

better build a tiny blind around your self when you get there... along with a few decoys tossed right out in that stuff should yield good results if ducks are already using the area.

If ducks already go in there then there is no reason to cut anything out but like said above I'd have some sort of motion in the dekes! Good Luck man looks like some great WRP

I hunted a pond just like the the other day for the first time and crushed them. We had 8 mallards, four Canadians, a mojo, and a quiver magnet out. A jerk string would have worked better than the magnet. Good luck. It looks like a great spot.

Remember, once it get cold enough, alotta that stuff in the water is going to die out and open it up alot. You'll be just fine as long as you've got a good hide.
Theres always someone out there thats better then you. I'm that guy.
