i have two different calls i mainly hunt the rivers so i use my PRIMOS P.H.A.T. Lady it sounds like a nice hen mallard and has the volume i need for hunting the river. For lakes i use an H&S Double reed its loud and easy to blow. Personally i think it depends on where you are hunting and Practice.

This is the DUCK CALLING Forum, not Goose...

Anywayz...There are hundreds of options to choose from, just go to callmakers websites and listen to soundfiles. Some calls float some peoples boats, and some dont. Just depends on what sounds you like. Be a little more specific, answer these specifications:

Raspy, Clear, or Whiny
Loud or Quiet
Acrylic or Wood
Versatile/Do-It-All or just a "DUCK CALL"
Single or Double Reed
Are you Advanced or Intermediate?

Fill us in, it will help us to lead you in the right direction and give you some good choices to look at.
