Mondo or daisy slayer?

Postby cfaulk33 » Thu Jul 04, 2013 6:50 am

Looking to add another call to my collection before this hunting season rolls around! Looking into the new DS since I never got a hold of the original one and also the Mondo. For any of you guys that have had a chance to run either of them or both what are your opinions on them? I haven't ran either and my local bass pro didn't have either in stock so I'm really needing some opinions on these. Any help would be appreciated

Two completely different styles of calls, the mondo takes way more air and has more of a "bark" the daisy slayer on the other hand takes less air and has a lot of hold built in. If you've never owned/ hunted a cutdown call before I wouldn't get the mondo because its going to be different from anything you've ever used before. I bought a daisy slayer at cabelas last week and I think it is a great call.

I agree with the statement above but if ya wanted to go cutdown, the mondo would be easiest to transition to. This is only my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. Lol. The DS is without a doubt my favorite hunting call.

There is absolutely no comparison between the two. The Mondo is loud and the DS is soft. I found the DS to be worthless but that's just what I thought. Therefore the Mondo would be my choice of the two.

I have both calls and I'd go with either a DS or regular Diablo. Ill be honest..I didn't like the DS at first either because I was expecting it to be louder. Once I got over the fact it wasn't meant to scream I love it. The DS does low-med volume excellent imo

Just my opinion. Don't like the backpressure in it at all.

Watch the new episode of RNT-V. John provides explanation of the difference in DC Diablo and DS. Pretty cool. I have the special edition DS and got a new Bocote DS. Both great calls. The Bocote is mellow and very nasally. I like having a call like that on the lanyard. I haven't bought into the cut down craze, so a mondo won't get me vote. It sounds good no lie, but nothing I can't accomplish with a daisy cutter.

Both !
The mondo for clear bluebird days ,when you can hammer on the birds. DS for overcast days when ya need a mellow call when the birds are jumpy because of the low pressure.
Lifes to short to sweat the small crap !
Lighten up and have some fun ,before ya die !

Laugh at yourself and with others!!!!!

Though the Mondo has the capability to be a louder call, it can talk the ducks in with less air too. One year I hunted a blind away from an RNT pro staffer who was blowing the mondo. My nephew got me to notice how the guy was running the call. You could hardly hear him, still had the barky timbre though. You could definitely hear the shotguns making the ducks rain afterwards.

If you can get one tuned for you to establish versatility, a mondo can be just as effective as a regular blowing call.

I've been thinking about a DS myself. Haven't tried one or heard one yet.

Would one of y'all who has one post up a sound clip?

Mondo. DS has the same qualities as several other RNT calls I already have. Even though that DS looks sweet!

They're such very different calls, I'd think much would depend on what you own and are happy with now, what would add to your current capabilities.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

Right now I've got the daisy cutter, original, short barrel, diablo, and timber hawg. Never really blown a cut down but I've been wanting to try a cutdown type call out and I've always wanted a DS but never got one of the original
Ones so now I'm really wanting one of these too. I do a lot of timber hunting so I can't decide which one I'm gonna get first. Ill have both before too long though. Plus I'm gonna get it custom made with color and engravings when I visit the shop later this year. Just trying to get some opinions on the calls before hand :).

Thanks for all the input so far guys!

Doesn't sound like you've need for another call on the DS end of the scale, just want. But in the clutch, want often carries the day...
