Compliment call for SB?

Postby Swamp Chuck » Fri Aug 23, 2013 9:21 am

I Have had my hedge short barrel for a time now and came across a good deal on an acrylic echo timber. Would the echo timber be a good call to pair with my sb? If not, what would be a better call to compliment it?

No they are almost identical in what they do and volume. Honestly the SB is a hard call to compliment because it does EVERYTHING. It has enough volume to reach out, but gets whisper quiet. You can run it raspy OR smoothe.

Mvp. Like Trevor said the sb is one of the most versatile calls. The best answer for ya is a mallard green MVP!!!

I would lean more towards a cutdown of some sort just because it's a complete different sound

Trevor would be right. SB can do most stuff you'd need.

Try a Microhen. I picked one up after I got a SB. Nice compliment to most calls.

A RNT micro hen, a properly tuned Diablo, or a timber hawg. I'm running a steel shot short barrel and a boots on timber hawg but might switch it out for my Diablo I love that call.

Get something loud. The SB is capable of anything on the low end with practice.

I got such a good deal on the echo that I just snatched it up and may get a MVP or some other louder call. Any suggestions besides the MVP for a louder call?
thanks

Definitely the MVP for a louder call. You wont be disappointed.

I've a super sweet older hedge SB that sits the bench because I hunt with a MVP and a Microhen that each do things I want better than the SB. My old SB is as loud as my old DC, but newer SBs I've heard are quieter, so I'd want a louder compliment to one, and my choice would be the MVP.

Your mileage may vary.

Rick is actually the guy that got me interested in an MVP as a hunting call. Glad I read his post a few years back.

Not a bad choice either. Just a little more of a learning curve.

I've carried a Mondo, too, the past couple seasons but rarely use it.

I have to change my air presentation from what I use for all other duck calls to get the sharp tones I want out of it, but that may be an individual thing. Have run it long enough now that switching is pretty much unconscious, but it was something I initially had to think about if I didn't want to surprise myself.
