RNT MVP and Lares Hybrid Question

Postby MIDTENNHTR » Tue Oct 22, 2013 7:50 am

I just recently acquired a trade off here of a RNT MVP. I was looking for a call that I could use
as a open water backup to my Lares Hybrid. The Lares is plenty loud enough for most situations but I really
liked the look of the MVP and having a call that could ring was appealing when I wanted to hunt the big lake
by my house. Here's the problem, I think the Hybrid is louder than the MVP. Could it maybe just
need to be tuned? It has good range and is plenty ducky so the sound seems good I just thought it would
be louder than my hybrid but it's not. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Tuned pretty light and I'm running a 1.36 reed out of the hybrid.

I have both calls. With a longer reed (360 would qualify), the Hybrid is every bit as loud as the MVP when you are pouring the coal to it. They have totally different sounds. The MVP is more versatile on the soft end. For open waters, they should complement.

It does seem to have a softer tone to it than the loud, raspy hybrid. I guess I just didn't expect
to get a finishing call when I was looking for a screamer

I was running both of these calls on my lanyard for a while. I think that part of the problem is perception. The Lares is so much shorter, therefore closer to your ears and seemingly louder. Clearly, the MVP is "louder", but it is also much higher in pitch and that carries farther if you ask me. Either way, I didn't really think the two complimented each other very well.
