Making a duck call

Postby CAwoodyhunter » Wed Nov 06, 2013 2:04 pm

I'm looking into making a timber style duck call. What kind of wood should I use and also how many reeds should I use?

This video should help with some questions and also the basics of making your own call. In this video, cocobolo is used for the barrel. I believe RNT now uses a wood called bocote as well. You will want a hardwood no matter what. There are some wood blanks for sale on ebay that could be worth checking out.

As for the number of reeds, depends on what you want. I believe that a double reed is softer than a single typically. Good luck with this and I hope to see pictures of the finished product
