Upgrading calls: looking feedback/advice

Postby SteveInOR » Mon Jan 06, 2014 3:21 pm

Hey all, looking for some feedback here on stepping up to a nice acrylic single reed.
I've been hunting waterfowl for about 7 years now here in Oregon, been calling for about the last 4 or so. I've tried a lot of fairly inexpensive double reeds over that time, buck Gardner, primos, and duck commander mostly. The call I currently use the most is the primos wench with the duck commander classic commander coming in second place.
I love the wench and plan on keeping it for close in work, it's a really easy call to blow, but I really want to add a nice single reed to use on clear days and bigger water.
I've been looking mostly at the daisy cutter and echo XLT.
I know I'll have to adjust a little to blow one of these properly.
What would you guys recommend between these two calls, or even a different call that's similar to them?
Thankfully, we have the Pacific Northwest sportsmans show coming up next month and I'll have a chance to try a few out.

Either of those would be a real solid choice..

The Daisy Cutter would get my vote as I love them and have NEVER liked any Echos. Great call with the ability to lean on it but they have a great whine that you can use to finish the birds.

Xlt gets my vote!! Love my echos. A cutter is not a bad choice either though. But these calls can be difficult to blow if you are just stepping up to a single reed. I would suggest checking out an echo pure meat. They're very forgiving for a single reed and have great range. Either choice is good though. Once you learn how to master them you'll never need another call.

Some coot stole my fone.

On clear days I like a raspy loud call............check out the new RMC Golddigger, you won't meet a nicer guy the Ronnie / Stump he can make you what ever you want.
The calls he ship out of his shop are heirloom quality that will be passed down in your family from generation to generation.
