Buying wood for custom calls

Postby dgbLA » Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:45 am

I have decided that I want to use bois d arc for the call but need a little help on where to buy from. I am also wondering whether or not the call maker wants the wood to be green or does it need to be dried for a certain length of time. Some of the wood that I have found is spalted and I have no idea if that is suitable for call making or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Contact the call maker you have in mind. They may have it on hand and if not can get it.

I don't know of a place to just order green hedge. Just have to know someone that's has it and be ready to pay what they want.

No, the green hedge is not for sale. (Posted te wrong damn picture) I have plenty of aged/dark hedge that I would sell though. 1.5 x 1.5 x 12

Go to woodbarter.com and you'll find plenty of wood suppliers at a lot better prices than retail... even some green hedge once in a while... and some callmakers, too. Your callmaker will want dry wood, but they'll likely have a stock of their own. Spalted is fine, as long as it is solid. If soft or punky, it can be stabilized and used. Good luck!
